A NEW housing estate is to be built on the site of a former miner’s welfare club in New Arley.
Work is to start shortly on the project off Ransome Road, which will have 42 two, three and four-bedroomed properties, of which 20 will be for shared ownership and the others offered for rent through North Warwickshire Borough Council.
The old club was demolished three years ago, after being forced to close through financial problems and then being a target for vandals and arsonists.
The new development is being undertaken by the Cassidy Group, on behalf of Bromford Housing Association, and has received a £500,000 investment from the Government’s Homes and Communities Agency.
James Cassidy said: “It is our aim that this development will also provide the opportunity for young people to learn much needed construction skills and help them in their goal to a career in the building industry”.
Coun John Winter, chairman of the council’s housing sub committee said: “This is a much needed development to provide houses for local families within Arley on a site that has been derelict for some time.
"This development will show what can be achieved with positive partnership working between all agencies.”
